This time I’m all about the retro art style, but in the future !
Retrofuturism is a style corresponding of what are the boomers imagining when thinking about ~the future~
Well, those fantastic, delusional dreams of our past are kind of a great inspiration source
So don’t mind me, it’s design yonk time
Playing with those very specific colours and those very complex shapes wasn’t easy, but it’s feeling plastiky enough for me.
Does it look like something retro-futuristic? I don’t know
Does it look like a ladybug? Maybe
I don’t have much to say about this design except that I will try to show part of :
The design and the modelling process
After starting the Gravity sketch app in VR, I create a new project, import my reference images and load a melodica 3D model that I had created earlier.
After that, I place the basic components (battery, speaker, computer) the way I want and start modelling
I love how the kid react to what I’m doing
The way you add stuff on the instrument depend on the style of what you want, I needed to create a complex “moulded” piece so using “subdivision modelling” was required. But for stuff like the cylindrical button, a simple shape was enough.
Then I go on and on while listening to music,
This sketch took me two hours
