The actual Melocussion
Today, the only thing I have in my hands, is a proof of concept made of scrap part and stuff I have fond on the internet.

It works as I wanted it to work and I’m very proud of it, but if I want one day to make money by crafting and selling the instrument, I will have to design a new one with parts that I have the right to sell. I indeed don’t think that I commercialize the components like the melodica and the Raspberry pi that I have used.
This is why a lot of conception need to be done if I want to go further. So let’s start with the most exiting part ! The design !
Creating something new
Before showing my new design idea, I need to show you how I want the new Melocussion to feel, a mood board will do the trick:

I hope that thanks to this mood board, you will get what I have in mind. I’m thinking of a very industrial and dark design, with apparent cables, without curves, but with layers of angles and shapes.
I want it to feel like those messy electronic music instruments and the famous Delorean is a great representation of the wanted feeling, something that looks mysterious yet complex.
However, I haven’t limited myself to a single mood board :

This time, I’m looking for something at the exact opposite. Not dark, but bright, no angles, only curves, no red, but some blue neon like lights. I want it to look like something from the future, something that doesn’t feel like an instrument, more like a science fiction tool.
I think that the Melocussion with this design will be very eye catching, but I like both very much and I hope that I will be able to make new prototypes following the two designs.
Now tell me, what design are you thinking of when imagining the new Melocussion, is it more natural ? With wood and green colour ?
Is it something steam punk like ? With pipes and gears ?
In the next post, I will show concept of Melocussion using the mood boards, until then, have a great time thinking about stuff !
I did appreciate reading this post as someone who wants to combine art and technology 🙂
I think I prefer the first mood board, as the design seems more adequate to the identity of the product, which is messy in its own way IMO.
Thank you for giving your opinion, I’ll post some 3D POC using the two mood boards in the next post, let me know if the results where close to what you are thinking !
